Alanya tropical fruit production expands significantly

Tropical fruit production in Alanya, Antalya, has transitioned from a hobbyist activity into a significant commercial sector. Over the last decade, the number of tropical fruit producers in the district has increased by 159 percent, rising from 859 in 2016 to 2,227 in 2026, according to Farmer Registration System data.

Production areas have also expanded by 95 percent, growing from 19,282 decares in 2016 to 37,605 decares. Avocado leads the sector, with 1,776 producers cultivating 24,000 decares. Other major crops include banana, which covers 12,000 decares, followed by mango, passiflora, and dragon fruit.

Ali Hüddoğlu, President of the Alanya Tropical Fruit Producers Association, noted that the region's climate and soil conditions contribute to high product quality. This growth has attracted international interest, with buyers from Europe, Russia, and the Turkic regions seeking direct contract farming opportunities. The district currently cultivates nearly 40 different types of tropical fruits.
