Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards becomes more attractive than American AAdvantage

A frequent flyer analysis highlights a strategic shift in loyalty between American Airlines' AAdvantage program and Alaska Airlines' Atmos Rewards program. Due to the way status is earned, a traveler utilizing points for flights is projected to lose Executive Platinum status with American Airlines for 2026, having earned only 811 Loyalty Points.

In contrast, the same travel patterns are expected to yield high-tier status with Alaska Atmos Rewards. By earning status points through award flights, the traveler has already secured Gold status and is on track to reach Platinum status, which requires 80,000 status points.
