Alaska: Dog rescued after 50 hours missing in avalanche
A four-year-old huskydoodle named LouLou was rescued in Alaska after being missing for approximately 50 hours following an avalanche in Chugach State Park near Eklutna Lake.
The incident occurred when an avalanche struck two hikers, causing them to fall approximately 150 meters. While the hikers survived with injuries, LouLou was separated from her owners during the slide. After the initial disappearance, owner Lauren Padawer organized a large-scale search operation involving volunteers, hikers, drones, and helicopters.
The search reached a breakthrough when an Apple AirTag attached to the dog's collar provided a location ping. Rescuers Amanda Barker and Dave Beckett used a helicopter to reach the area and located the dog in the snow. After a brief period of hesitation, LouLou was successfully leashed and airlifted to safety.
