Alaska avalanche rescue: Dog found alive after 50 hours
A four-year-old dog named LouLou was rescued in Alaska after spending more than 50 hours stranded in the mountains following an avalanche. The incident occurred on October 10 in Chugach State Park, where an avalanche swept two climbers approximately 150 meters down a mountain ridge.
The two men involved survived the avalanche but sustained serious injuries, including broken ribs, a fractured jaw, a fractured vertebra, and a severe hand injury. While the men were airlifted to a hospital, LouLou became lost in the freezing wilderness.
The search effort, organized by the dog's owner Lauren Padawer, involved over 20 volunteers, search dogs, and aerial support. The rescue was aided by an Apple AirTag attached to the dog's collar. Although initial location data was inaccurate due to the rugged terrain, volunteers Amanda Barker and Dave Beckett eventually spotted the dog from a helicopter. LouLou was found largely unharmed and has since undergone medical evaluation.
