ALBA Movements Holds IV Continental Assembly in Havana

More than 150 delegates from 25 countries gathered in Havana, Cuba, from August 6‑9 2026 for the IV Continental Assembly of ALBA Movements. The meeting marks the centenary of Fidel Castro’s birth and is organized under the slogan “For socialism, a hundred years walking with Fidel.”

The assembly brings together roughly 400 peasant, indigenous, urban, student and feminist organizations. Its agenda is structured around three pillars: analysing the global crisis of capitalism and the so‑called Monroe Doctrine 2.0, discussing socialism as a political horizon, and drafting a Continental Work Plan to translate debate into unified action. Cuban leaders—including President Miguel Díaz‑Canel, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez—opened the sessions, describing the choice of Havana as an act of militant solidarity against the intensified U.S. blockade.

Delegates also condemned U.S. imperialist policies toward the Global South and reaffirmed the network’s commitment to regional sovereignty and anti‑imperialism.
