Alba to commemorate soldiers deported to camps and victims of Nazi-fascist executions

The city of Alba will hold a ceremony on Sunday, September 13, to commemorate over 1,300 military personnel who were deported to concentration camps in Germany.

The program begins at 11:30 a.m. with the laying of a laurel wreath at the Alpini monument in the Divisione Cuneense park. A procession will then proceed to the former Caserma Govone. There, a second wreath will be placed on the plaque dedicated to Luigi Rinaldi, the first victim of the national Liberation struggle, who was killed by Nazi-fascists on September 12, 1943.

Additional commemorations will take place at the former barracks to honor Gianfranco Caccia, Attilio Bonalumi, and two other infantrymen executed by German forces on September 12, 1943, as well as Gennaro Sangiano, who was executed on September 13, 1944. The event is organized by the Municipality of Alba in collaboration with various local associations, including ANPI and the Associazione Beato Padre Giuseppe Girotti.
