Albania extends fuel subsidies for public transport

The Albanian government has announced the indefinite continuation of fuel subsidies for public transport to mitigate the impact of rising fuel costs. Minister of Economy and Innovation Delina Ibrahimaj stated that the decision was made in consultation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy to ensure the stability of public services.

Data indicates that the rise in fuel prices, driven by Middle East conflicts, has significantly increased state revenue. Between March and July, the Albanian budget collected approximately 20.2 billion lek (roughly 18 million euros) more than the same period last year due to increased customs duties, excise taxes, and VAT on oil and gasoline imports. While fuel import volumes decreased slightly by 0.6%, the higher prices resulted in a 9.1% increase in revenue. Current prices for diesel and gasoline have risen significantly compared to levels seen earlier this year.
