Albania joins Artemis Accords at NASA headquarters
Albania has officially joined the Artemis Accords, becoming the 73rd signatory to the international agreement for the peaceful and transparent exploration of space. The signing ceremony took place at NASA headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha signed the accords, joined by NASA Deputy Administrator Matt Anderson and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Space and Environment Connor Tomlinson. Hoxha stated that the agreement strengthens the strategic partnership between Albania and the United States and fosters innovation and scientific cooperation.
This move follows Albania's recent efforts in space technology, including the January 2023 launch of the Albania-1 and Albania-2 Earth-observation satellites via a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The country has also participated in NASA's Space Apps Challenge to engage local innovators with space science data.
