Albania protests luxury resort linked to Trump family amid environmental concerns

Tens of thousands of Albanians have taken to the streets in Tirana and along the Adriatic coast to oppose a €1.4 billion luxury resort planned for the protected Narta‑Vjosa lagoon area. The development is associated with Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, prompting demonstrators to label the project a "sale" of the country, with slogans such as “Albania is not for sale.”

Prime Minister Edi Rama defends the scheme as a boost for tourism and job creation, describing the protests as a “hybrid war” fueled by misinformation. The European Parliament has called for a moratorium on new permits in protected zones, while opposition groups demand Rama’s resignation and greater transparency over the land deals.
