Fatal truck crash in Fushë Dukat, Albania kills one, injures four
Early on 26 July, a cargo truck carrying workers left the Vlorë‑Llogara road near the village of Fushë Dukat and overturned into a side channel. The crash killed 52‑year‑old Ilir Haka and injured four passengers – Saimir Haka (22), Qazim Haka (44), Sako Rexha (≈22) and an unidentified individual. Rescue crews had to cut the vehicle’s interior to free the trapped victims, who were taken to Vlorë Regional Hospital, while the deceased was transferred to the morgue.
The tragedy comes amid a surge in road fatalities across Albania. Police data show 28 deaths in traffic accidents between 1 June and 25 July, with 11 occurring in July alone, and more than 240 collisions reported in the period. Officials point to increased summer traffic, a higher number of vehicles and driver fatigue as contributing factors.
Investigations into the Fushë Dukat crash continue, focusing on possible driver drowsiness or sudden health issues.
