Albania road accidents increase in July 2026, INSTAT reports
The Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) has released a preliminary report showing a rise in road accidents in Albania for July 2026. During this month, 165 accidents were recorded, resulting in 235 deaths and injuries.
For the seven-month period from January to July 2026, the total number of accidents rose by 10% compared to the same period in 2025, reaching 844 incidents. The total number of casualties for this period has reached 1,187 people.
Human error remains the primary cause of these incidents, with 90.3% of July's accidents attributed to the failure to follow traffic regulations, such as speeding or ignoring signage. Drivers in the 25–34 age group are the most affected, representing 21.8% of the total accidents. Most accidents (25.5%) occur between 19:00 and 24:00, with Thursdays seeing the highest volume (18.8%).
Regionally, Tirana and Fier recorded significant numbers. Tirana saw 59 accidents in July, resulting in 74 casualties. Fier also saw a sharp increase, rising from 8 accidents in July 2025 to 20 in July 2026. Durrës recorded 15 accidents during the month.
