Jared Kushner's Albanian Resort Project Stalls Over Forged Land Deeds

Albanian prosecutors have issued an arrest warrant for Miami‑based businessman Artur Shehu, who is wanted on accusations of drug‑money laundering and of using forged property documents to sell a pristine Adriatic‑coast parcel to Albania Land Development. The land, valued at roughly €110 million, is earmarked for a multi‑billion‑dollar luxury resort backed by former U.S. president‑son‑in‑law Jared Kushner and his development company Sazan Real Estate Development.

Investigators allege Shehu and associates trafficked South American cocaine into European ports and laundered the proceeds through a real‑estate empire, including the falsified deeds. The case files contain no allegations against Kushner, Sazan, or other investors, and the investors say the purchase was legitimate. Local residents of the nearby village of Zvërnec have mounted a decade‑long legal challenge, staging mass protests dubbed the “Flamingo Revolution” over fears the project threatens wetlands, sea turtles and flamingos.

The resort plan envisions up to 10,000 hotel rooms and related amenities, and the Albanian government has publicly supported the development despite the legal and environmental disputes.
