Albanian capital sees multi‑day protests over Zvërneci development

On the 22nd and 23rd consecutive days, protesters gathered in Tirana's Skënderbej Square and marched along Dëshmorët e Kombit boulevard toward the prime‑minister’s office to oppose the planned investment in the Zvërneci area. Demonstrators, including members of the Albanian diaspora, carried national flags and demanded the cancellation of the project, which they say threatens the environment and cultural heritage. Police asked participants to clear the streets to keep traffic flowing, and a limited number of protesters spent the night near the prime‑minister’s building.

Organisers presented five non‑negotiable demands: the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, the formation of a non‑partisan technical and transitional government, constitutional reforms to ensure equal rights and limit the prime‑minister’s tenure, the repeal of laws protecting designated zones and strategic investment frameworks, and the full annulment of the so‑called “Paketa e Maleve.” The protestors vowed to continue actions until all points are met.
