Albanian Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari Reports 200 Tourists Rescued

Albanian Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari and General Director of the State Police Skënder Hita carried out an inspection in the coastal town of Himara, meeting with Mayor Vangjel Tavo to assess security measures for the summer tourist season.

Lamallari said the police intervened in 67 incidents during the past four months, rescuing more than 200 tourists, primarily in the Cika, Gjipe and southern regions. He noted that 4,220 vessels were inspected – a 21 % increase compared with the same period last year – and that 166 violations were sanctioned with vessel blockings and administrative fines.

A new procedure introduced this season allows maritime border checks to be performed directly at sea using the TIMS system, removing the need for yachts and other craft to stop at border points. An updated noise‑level ordinance has also been enforced, a measure welcomed by both visitors and local businesses.
