Albanian livestock producers issue seven demands to government
Livestock producers in Albania have submitted a letter to Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Ministers of Agriculture and Finance, outlining seven urgent demands to address the sector's survival crisis. The producers cite high production costs and insufficient subsidies as primary drivers of their economic distress.
A central demand is the reduction of production costs through the removal of excise taxes and fuel taxes specifically for the livestock sector. This follows previous farmer protests in April regarding the removal of subsidized fuel schemes during a period of rising agricultural input prices.
The producers noted that while a previous agreement with ministers suggested these issues would be addressed in September, current market conditions in Albania make further delays impossible. They have warned of potential protests if the government does not intervene immediately to resolve these issues, particularly within the dairy sector.
