Albania hosts EU‑backed conference on foreign information manipulation
Albania welcomed an international high‑level conference in Tirana dedicated to foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI). The event, organised by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, gathered experts from NATO’s Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence, Sciences Po Paris, the Free Russia Foundation and other institutions to discuss the European Democracy Shield and EU tools against disinformation.
Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha warned that information manipulation and foreign interference are among the greatest challenges to modern democracies and called for coordinated action among allies. He noted that Albania is now in the final phase of its EU accession negotiations, making the country more vulnerable to hostile influence.
Prime Minister Edi Rama also addressed the conference, describing recent protests in the capital as a “flamingo revolution” and cautioning that foreign actors could exploit such unrest. Both officials underscored the need to strengthen institutional resilience as Albania advances toward EU membership.
