Albanian mother and son killed in fatal Greece road crash

On the morning of 7 August, a private car carrying a 46‑year‑old Albanian mother and her 21‑year‑old son collided head‑on with a truck on the Amfipolis‑Drama provincial road near Paleokomi in the Serres region of Greece. The crash occurred at about 07:30 and was described as extremely violent; both occupants of the car were killed on the spot, while the 56‑year‑old truck driver sustained only minor injuries and was taken to the General Hospital of Drama.

Greek authorities said the car was travelling at a speed well above the posted limit and lost control on a curved section of the road, causing it to cross the centre line. Experts highlighted the role of high speed and centrifugal force in the loss of control. Video footage from a camera mounted on the truck captured the moments before the collision and is being examined as key evidence. The victims were Albanian citizens who had lived in Paleokomi for years and worked for the same local company. Their husband and father expressed profound grief, describing the loss as "everything".

The incident has deeply affected the local Albanian community in Greece, prompting an outpouring of condolences on social media.
