Albanian MP Nikolla Micevski pushes stricter electric scooter rules

Parliamentary coordinator Nikolla Micevski has introduced amendments to Albania’s Road Safety Law targeting electric scooters. The proposals would raise the minimum riding age to 18, cap scooter speeds at 20 km/h, and tighten penalties – adding a temporary 30‑day vehicle seizure to existing fines. Micevski cited a 2½‑year review showing roughly 2,000 scooter‑related accidents, 46 deaths and 556 serious injuries, with more than half of accidents involving 16‑ and 17‑year‑olds. The changes were placed on the agenda and adopted in a plenary session.

The amendments aim to reduce traffic violations and improve overall road safety for all users.
