Albanian parliament rejects opposition's request to interpellate PM Edi Rama

In a meeting of the Democratic Party’s new National Council, party leader Sali Berisha accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of paying “marramendëse” sums every 30 minutes to control algorithms and criticised the government’s handling of protests and alleged murders.

Separately, the Albanian Parliament voted down a request by opposition leader Gazment Bardhi for an urgent interpellation of Prime Minister Rama. Only 23 deputies voted in favor while 75 opposed. Bardhi accused the speaker Niko Peleshi of protecting the prime minister instead of parliamentary oversight, stating, “Ka një vit parlamenti dhe nuk ke pranuar kurrë asnjë kërkesë për interpelancë të deputetëve të opozitës.” The rejected motion reflects ongoing tensions between the ruling party and the opposition ahead of Albania’s EU integration efforts.
