Albanian parties reject proposal for 101‑member transitional assembly

A proposal to create a 12‑month transitional national assembly of 101 members selected by lot, tasked with forming a technocratic interim government and drafting a new constitution, has been publicly rejected by Albania's two largest parties, the Socialist Party (PS) and the Democratic Party (PD).

Prominent opposition figures, Socialist deputy Erion Braçe and former president Sali Berisha, warned that the plan would plunge the country into chaos and breach constitutional rules. They argue that a government formed outside parliamentary and constitutional procedures would lack legitimacy. Prime Minister Edi Rama has so far ignored the platform presented by the protest coordinators, which has failed to attract broader public or political support.
