Albanian police charge 27 protesters over Trump‑linked luxury hotel plan

Albanian police said on Friday that 27 demonstrators were charged with offenses against public order after a night march in Tirana. The protest was part of a series of gatherings opposing a planned luxury resort on a protected coastal reserve near Zvernec, a project linked to Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner.

The demonstrators, who have vowed to keep up pressure until the development is cancelled, also call for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama. Earlier in the week, police indicted 35 people for blocking the highway to Tirana’s airport during a similar protest. Authorities accuse the newly charged individuals of directing protesters away from approved routes and undermining public safety.

The controversy has fueled broader anti‑corruption sentiment, as the site is also home to important bird habitats, including hundreds of flamingos.
