Albanian prisoner escapes police custody during hospital transfer in Greece

An Albanian national, identified as 41-year-old Gentian Çipi, escaped from police custody during a hospital transfer in Greece. The incident occurred around 23:30 near the psychiatric ward of the Serres General Hospital while the prisoner was being transported from Nigrita Prison.

According to reports, two vehicles resembling police cars approached the transport vehicle. Armed individuals neutralized two guards at gunpoint and assisted Çipi in his escape. The perpetrators also seized a service weapon from one of the officers before fleeing the scene.

Çipi is described by authorities as the leader of a criminal group involved in drug trafficking and violent crime. He has a significant criminal record in both Albania and Greece, including a previous arrest for an attempted murder in Thessaloniki and charges related to arson and illegal surveillance. Greek authorities have launched a large-scale manhunt for Çipi and the armed group involved in the escape.
