Albanian protests continue as police deploy tear gas and arrest demonstrators over 'Flamingovë Revolution

The civil unrest dubbed the “Revolucioni i Flamingove” (Flamingovë Revolution) has intensified in Albania. On July 23, police used tear‑gas canisters and water‑cannon fire against demonstrators attempting to approach the parliament in Tirana, resulting in several arrests.

Despite the state‑directed force, protest organizers say the movement will persist, urging participants not to surrender. Albanian civil society reports a coordinated online smear campaign that includes disinformation and personal intimidation, with some reports implicating political figures. The protests have also drawn attention to businessman Artur Shehu, accused of falsifying land‑ownership documents and under investigation by Albanian and Italian authorities.
