Albanian protests continue over Trump‑linked luxury resort on protected coast

Thousands of Albanians have gathered in Tirana for the 20th consecutive day, demonstrating against a planned luxury resort on a protected Adriatic coastal area. The project is backed by Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner and is slated for construction near the Zvernic beach and the nearby Sazan Island, a key bird‑migration site. Protesters demand the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, denounce corruption and chant slogans such as “Albania is not for sale.”

The protests have prompted the European Parliament to call for a suspension of the building works, which authorities have implemented. Police have charged dozens of demonstrators with undermining public order. Environmental activist Denisa Kasa told AFP that the suspension “means a stop to all new construction in protected areas,” while biologist Jamal Khiri added that the movement “is not only about this project but also about the current law that opens protected zones to development.”
