Albanian tourism sector hit by online attacks, officials warn of economic damage

Economist Alfred Muharremi said that a wave of negative online reviews and comments is harming Albanian tourism businesses and “destroying national wealth”. He warned that many small and large enterprises rely on tourist perceptions, and that unfounded criticism can directly reduce income for families that depend on the sector.

Socialist Party parliamentary group leader Taulant Balla echoed these concerns, describing recent cyber‑attacks on hotels, guesthouses, restaurants and other tourist venues as an attempt to damage Albania's image after protests failed to do so. He noted that the attacks affect thousands of jobs and the broader economy, and said the government has contacted Google to address the alleged cyber‑threat.

Both officials stressed that protecting the reputation of Albania’s tourism industry is essential for the country's economic development and for preserving employment in the sector.
