Albany woman accused of plotting ISIS-inspired bomb attack on NY State Capitol

Federal prosecutors in Albany have charged 35-year-old Jessica Bowie with plotting to bomb the New York State Capitol. According to a criminal complaint, Bowie allegedly intended to “kill the senators while they are meeting.”

Authorities state that Bowie became radicalized online by ISIS and had adopted the name Aisha Saif. The investigation revealed she had purchased nails in early August for an explosive device she expected an FBI source to deliver.

A former roommate of Bowie reported that while she saw no obvious “red flags,” Bowie had recently become secretive, acted oddly at night, and occasionally played aggressive Arabic hymns at late hours. The roommate also noted a violent incident in July that resulted in police being called to their shared residence.
