Jerez de la Frontera: 70% of residents live in vulnerable neighbourhoods

A study by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda together with the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid finds that roughly seven out of ten inhabitants of Jerez de la Frontera live in areas classified as vulnerable. The assessment uses four indicators – low educational attainment, poverty, high unemployment and poor housing quality – each exceeding national thresholds. The report highlights that these neighbourhoods suffer from limited job opportunities, low incomes, ageing dwellings and reduced access to services, creating long‑term disadvantages for families.

The findings underscore structural issues such as declining employment, uneven city growth and difficulties in obtaining decent housing, signalling a need for targeted policies to improve living conditions in the affected districts.
