Ahold Delhaize manages cybersecurity incident affecting global grocery chains

Ahold Delhaize, the parent company of several major grocery chains including Albert Heijn, GIANT, Stop & Shop, and Hannaford, is managing a significant cybersecurity incident that has disrupted digital services across the United States and Europe.

In the Netherlands, Albert Heijn experienced logistics disruptions that led to empty shelves in some locations. While distribution centers have since returned to operational status and the delivery of fresh products has resumed, online ordering and delivery services remain unavailable through Sunday. The company has stated that customers who paid for unfulfilled orders will be compensated.

In the United States, digital platforms for GIANT Food Stores, Stop & Shop, and Hannaford have faced outages. While websites and mobile applications remain offline, physical stores, pharmacies, and fuel stations continue to operate during normal business hours. Ahold Delhaize has engaged third-party cybersecurity specialists to assist in the investigation and recovery process. The company has reported no current evidence that sensitive customer or associate data has been compromised.
