Albert Heijn stores face empty shelves following cyber incident

Albert Heijn stores across the Netherlands are experiencing empty shelves due to a recent cybersecurity incident. Despite the supermarket chain announcing on Thursday that nationwide deliveries had resumed, many locations reported shortages of fresh produce, dairy, and meat on Friday morning.

In cities such as Tilburg, Rotterdam, and The Hague, customers found limited availability of items including fruits, vegetables, onions, and milk. Some stores utilized signage to explain the shortages to customers. While restocking efforts are underway, employees noted that fully replenishing inventory is a gradual process.

As a preventive measure during the cyber incident, the company deactivated certain systems, which partially disrupted deliveries from distribution centers. Additionally, online grocery delivery services remain unavailable through at least Sunday, and customers are currently unable to place new online orders via the website or mobile application.
