Ahold Delhaize recovers from cybersecurity incident affecting global brands

Ahold Delhaize is working to restore digital services following a cybersecurity incident caused by the malicious actions of others. The company proactively took several systems offline as a precaution, impacting brands across Europe and the United States, including Albert Heijn, Stop & Shop, Giant Food, Hannaford, and Food Lion.

In the Netherlands, Albert Heijn’s website and app are back online, with home deliveries expected to resume on Friday, October 23. To compensate for disruptions, Albert Heijn is providing a 10 euro shopping credit to customers with cancelled delivery orders and is working to automatically restore missed Air Miles, personal discounts, and loyalty stamps. While some physical stores experienced temporary supply chain issues and empty shelves, the company stated that replenishment has resumed.

In the United States, e-commerce services for Ahold Delhaize’s banner brands are expected to resume in the coming days. Some US brands, such as Stop & Shop and The Giant Co., have offered in-store discounts to customers during the outage.

Ahold Delhaize has filed a formal police report with the Dutch police and is cooperating with the Dutch National Cyber Security Centre. The company stated there is currently no evidence that sensitive customer, associate, or partner data was stolen during the incident.
