Alberta and South Dakota issue severe weather warnings

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a Yellow Watch thunderstorm warning for a large area of central Alberta on June 29, 2026, citing the potential for strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. The agency also released an Air Quality Yellow Warning due to smoke drifting from Saskatchewan wildfires, and Flood Watches and High Streamflow Advisories for several river basins, including the Red Deer River, Little Red Deer River, Blindman River and Medicine River, forecasting water level rises of up to two metres.

The National Weather Service in Aberdeen, South Dakota, maintained a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for multiple counties in the state, warning of 100 mph wind gusts, large hail and possible tornado‑like winds. The service cautioned that the storms could cause serious injury, extensive property damage, tree loss and flash flooding, urging residents to seek shelter and avoid flooded roadways.
