Tropical Storm Fausto forms offshore Mexico as Alberta tornado causes damage

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami reported that a tropical depression strengthened into Tropical Storm Fausto on Sunday afternoon. The storm was centered about 750 miles (1,200 km) south‑southwest of the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula, with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph (65 kph) and moving west‑northwest at 13 mph (20 kph). No coastal watches or warnings were in effect, but forecasters expect steady to rapid strengthening and a transition to hurricane status by Monday night.

In western Canada, a tornado touched down in Clearwater County near the town of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. The twister downed trees, damaged homes and blocked roads, but no injuries were reported. Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a tornado warning for the area, urging residents to seek interior shelter and avoid downed power lines. The province is experiencing an unusually active tornado season, with about 25 tornadoes recorded this year—roughly ten more than the usual combined total for Alberta and Saskatchewan.
