Alberta will open a regulated online gambling market on July 13, 2026. The new framework permits private operators to offer online casino games and sports betting to residents aged 18 or older, ending the province’s reliance on the sole government‑run PlayAlberta site for digital wagering.

The market is overseen by Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC), which certifies operators, and the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC), which runs the marketplace and signs commercial agreements. As of late June, AGLC’s public list showed 47 iGaming operators and numerous platform providers ready for launch, with the total likely to rise.

The province expects to collect 20% of operator profits, with a guaranteed 2% share for First Nations, and aims to curb the estimated 70% grey‑market activity. Additional measures include a province‑wide self‑exclusion tool, stricter advertising rules that prohibit athletes from promoting specific bets, and continued compliance requirements for responsible gambling. PlayAlberta will remain available alongside private sites, providing consumers with choice while the government channels new tax revenue toward mental‑health and addiction services.
