Alberta sends over 652,000 special ballots for referendum

Elections Alberta has approved and sent over 652,000 special ballot referendum packages to electors as of September 29. The agency processed more than 658,000 applications in total, rejecting approximately 5,700 due to factors such as duplicate requests, invalid addressing, or elector ineligibility.

As of the latest report, more than 131,000 completed special ballot packages have been returned, validated, and recorded as voted. The final batch of ballots has been sent for production and mailing, with delivery times varying based on distance and address accuracy. International requests are being handled via courier.

Electors are advised to include copies of accepted identification or declarations to avoid rejection. Elections Alberta has cautioned voters not to send original identification documents, recommending instead that they provide clear photocopies, scans, or photos.
