While many members in the resource sector feel frustration with federal policy, some companies hesitate to speak publicly to avoid workplace tension.

Economist Jim Stanford, director of the Centre for Future Work, has warned that independence could deliver a “devastating economic blow,” with research suggesting Alberta’s GDP could fall by 4 to 10 per cent in the initial years. Stanford noted that an independent province would face enormous fiscal costs for services currently provided by the federal government, such as defense and banking.

Political strategists have also raised concerns regarding voter turnout, fearing that federalist supporters might stay home, potentially allowing highly motivated separatist groups to influence the outcome in a manner similar to the Brexit process.
