Albin Kurti urges Kosovo diaspora return as border traffic surges at Morinë

Prime Minister Albin Kurti addressed Kosovo’s diaspora at a gathering in Pristina’s Adem Jashari Square, calling expatriates a “small embassy” and saying the government is creating conditions for their return through rule of law, good governance, anti‑corruption measures and investments in agriculture and the army.

Opposition MP Vlora Çitaku criticised the administration, saying diaspora members face long waits at the borders of neighbouring Croatia and Montenegro and that the state must act rather than deliver “ideological lectures”.

At the Morinë crossing with Albania, more than 50 000 vehicles entered in the first two days of August, prompting authorities to expedite procedures for foreign‑registered cars, many belonging to returning Kosovars.

Separately, teachers of the Albanian diaspora convened in Brezovicë for the 19th International Albanian Language Seminar, highlighting the need for institutional support and noting a joint Kosovo‑Albania curriculum and teaching materials for diaspora schools.
