Albin Kurti rejects formation of Serbian Municipalities Association

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has reiterated his rejection of the formation of the Association of Serbian Municipalities (ASM), stating that the proposed structure must function within the framework of the Republic of Kosovo. In a recent interview, Kurti argued that the version of the association sought by Belgrade is intended to undermine Kosovo's independence rather than serve the Serbian community. He noted that the Kosovo Constitutional Court previously ruled that a mono-ethnic association would contradict the spirit of the constitution.

In response, Petar Petković, Director of the Serbian Government Office for Kosovo and Metohija, criticized the stance, asserting that the formation of the ASM is a binding obligation stemming from the 2013 and 2015 agreements rather than a matter of political will. Petković questioned why the European Union allows the Prime Minister to bypass the dialogue and called on Brussels to prioritize the ASM Statute on the official agenda to ensure compliance with signed agreements.
