Alcalá de Henares Semana Cervantina named Festival of International Tourist Interest

The Ministry of Industry and Tourism, through the State Secretariat for Tourism, has officially declared the Semana Cervantina in Alcalá de Henares as a Festival of International Tourist Interest. This recognition follows its 2018 designation as a Festival of National Tourist Interest.

Celebrating the legacy of Miguel de Cervantes, the festival takes place every October to coincide with the anniversary of the author's baptism. Key events include the Mercado Cervantino, which features Golden Age-inspired recreations, cultural activities, and gastronomy, as well as a civic procession and public readings of ‘Don Quixote’.

Rosario Sánchez, the Secretary of State for Tourism, noted that the distinction reinforces the international projection of a celebration deeply rooted in the historical and cultural heritage of the author's birthplace.
