The Semana Cervantina in Alcalá de Henares has been officially designated as a Festival of International Tourist Interest by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism. This follows the event’s previous recognition as a National Festival of Tourist Interest in 2018.

Held annually in October to coincide with the anniversary of Miguel de Cervantes’ baptism, the festival celebrates the legacy of the ‘Don Quixote’ author through activities such as the Mercado Cervantino, civic processions, and public readings. Rosario Sánchez, the Secretary of State for Tourism, stated that the distinction “reinforces the international projection of a celebration deeply rooted in the historical and cultural heritage of the author's birthplace.”
