Spanish municipalities demand health action, LGTBI support and pool openings

In Alcalá de Henares, the Popular Party’s local spokesperson Orlena de Miguel called on the socialist municipal spokesperson to apologise for the Supreme Court conviction of former minister José Luis Ábalos, branding it "corruption of the sanchismo".

The Huelva city council’s plenary will focus on three issues: a motion urging the national government to negotiate an end to the doctors’ strike and protect patients, a proposal to strengthen fire‑prevention measures in the city’s dry areas, and a declaration supporting LGTBI Pride.

In Cuenca, Popular Party leader Bea Jiménez demanded the immediate opening of municipal swimming pools as temperatures exceed 35 °C, warning that the closure harms families and summer camp programmes.

Toledo’s socialist deputy Ana Abellán submitted two motions, one to reaffirm the city’s commitment to LGTBI rights—including raising the rainbow flag during Pride—and another to improve the operation of municipal pools during heat waves.

Ciudad Real’s socialist group, led by Sara Martínez, presented motions to launch a municipal volunteering programme and revive the “time bank”, alongside a request to display the rainbow flag in the town hall and protect a historic railway building.

In Oviedo, a joint proposal from the PSOE and IU‑Convocatoria called for the placement of a rainbow flag on the town‑hall façade during Pride 2026 and for anti‑discrimination measures, stressing the city’s duty to protect LGTBI rights.
