Alcamo and Salerno host major June Marian festivals in Italy
The Sicilian town of Alcamo is preparing a six‑day festivity for the patron saint Maria Santissima dei Miracoli, funded with a €250,000 municipal budget and scheduled to run from 12 June to the traditional procession on 21 June. Events include cultural performances, a children’s morning, a multi‑ethnic dinner, a fountain‑fire show at the Castello dei Conti, and a concert by rapper Clementino on 20 June.
In the Salerno district of Carmine, the annual Alzata del Panno ceremony will take place on 16 June, marking the start of a month‑long devotion to the Madonna del Carmelo that culminates in the 16 July feast. The rite features evening vespers, a Mass led by Monsignor Alfonso Raimo, a procession of the Virgin’s mantle through the neighbourhood, and participation by local bands and the Istituto Alberghiero “Virtuoso” for a communal gathering.
