Alcoi and Gandesa implement new municipal budget frameworks

Municipalities in Spain are advancing local financial and participatory initiatives. In Alcoi, the city council has approved the framework for the 2027 participatory budgets, allocating 400,000 euros. Of this amount, 320,000 euros are designated for direct investment proposals, while 80,000 euros are set aside for current goods and services. To prevent voter confusion, the council has replaced the term ‘guarantees’ with ‘giving support’ to clarify the nature of the voting process. Residents over 16 can participate via physical ballot boxes, online forms, or in-person workshops.

In Gandesa, the municipal budget for 2026 has been finalized at nearly 4 million euros. The budget includes approximately 700,000 euros for investments aimed at urban transformation and the improvement of public spaces, such as street networks and children's parks. A key project is the 300,000 euro first phase of the rehabilitation of the historic former slaughterhouse, a building protected as a Local Cultural Interest Asset (BCIL), which will be supported by regional cultural and governance grants.
