Alcoy participatory budgeting shows decade of evolving citizen priorities
Since its implementation in 2014, the participatory budgeting process in Alcoy has evolved into a consolidated model of public investment that reflects the changing priorities of its citizens.
Early projects focused on basic urbanism, such as street paving and the creation of dog parks. As the process matured, initiatives expanded to include smart technology like intelligent street lighting, bike lanes, and LED public lighting.
In recent years, the scope of approved projects has shifted toward social and ecological needs. This includes urban art, the rehabilitation of old city walls, campaigns to combat loneliness among the elderly, support for people with functional diversity, and improvements to municipal accessibility and sports infrastructure.
