Aldi and Sainsbury's Open New Stores Across Scotland
Aldi announced plans for three additional stores in Scotland, targeting sites in Ayr South (South Ayrshire), Blantyre (South Lanarkshire) and Falkirk Central. The discount retailer is investing over £370 million this year as part of a £1.5 billion target for 1,500 UK stores.
Sainsbury's opened its first supermarket in Dumfries, a £17 million, 35,000‑sq‑ft development on a former Homebase site. The store includes an in‑store Argos, offers online grocery delivery for the region and provides a new local outlet for customers who previously travelled to Carlisle. Both openings aim to increase affordable food access and create local jobs.
