Aldi expands US store count and refurbishes UK outlets in 2026

Aldi said it will open more than 180 new stores in the United States during 2026, bringing its U.S. footprint to roughly 2,800 locations and targeting 3,200 stores by 2028. The expansion will be backed by a $9 billion investment over five years and includes new sites in Portland, Maine, ten stores in Phoenix, Arizona, a doubling of its Las Vegas presence, 50 new stores in Colorado and the conversion of 80 former Southeastern Grocers locations.

In the United Kingdom, Aldi announced a £300 million programme to refurbish 25 stores this summer, adding larger aisles, energy‑efficient fridge doors, natural refrigerants and upgraded bakery, health‑and‑beauty and fresh‑food sections. The upgrades cover sites in Liverpool, London, Aberdeen, Nottingham, Manchester and many other towns, while a parallel £370 million commitment will fund new store openings across the UK.
