Aldi to invest £19.5 million in Scottish expansion

Aldi has announced a £19.5 million investment in its Scottish operations scheduled for 2027. This funding is part of a broader £900 million UK investment programme aimed at expanding the retailer's footprint and distribution network.

The 2027 Scottish allocation includes the opening of a new supermarket in Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, and extensions to five existing locations: Alloa, Leven, St Andrews, Motherwell, and the Gilmerton Road site in Edinburgh. These upgrades are intended to increase shopping space and improve store layouts.

This initiative follows a planned £43 million investment in Scotland over the next two years, which includes new stores in Uddingston and Dumbarton in 2026. Aldi currently operates 113 stores in Scotland and maintains 1,095 stores across the UK, with a long-term goal of reaching 1,500 locations nationwide.
