Aldi to Open 40 New UK Stores and Hire 450 Staff in Major Expansion

Aldi is proceeding with a major expansion of its UK network, planning to open around 40 new supermarkets this year. The rollout is part of a £370 million investment that also includes upgrades to 25 existing stores in locations such as Pitsea, Musselburgh, Kingston‑upon‑Thames and Stockton.

To staff the new outlets, Aldi will recruit more than 450 store assistants. Entry‑level roles offer a starting wage of £13.50 per hour nationally and £14.88 inside the M25, with the possibility of higher rates as employees gain service. The retailer also provides paid breaks, which it says amount to an extra £1,500 per year for each staff member.

Aldi now operates over 1,080 stores across the UK and employs more than 43,000 people. The expansion is aimed at further strengthening its presence in the British grocery market.
