Aldi UK upgrades stores and adds new electric‑vehicle charging points

Aldi is advancing its £300 million UK refurbishment programme by adding four Scottish supermarkets – in Musselburgh, Montrose, Polmont and Aberdeen – to a list of 25 stores slated for upgrades. The changes will provide larger shop floors, energy‑efficient fridge doors and natural refrigerants, along with refreshed bakery, health‑and‑beauty and fresh‑food sections.

In parallel, the discounter is expanding its electric‑vehicle (EV) charging network. Through a partnership with renewable‑energy firm Drax, around 1,200 chargers at more than 250 stores have been transferred to the new provider, and new fast and rapid chargers are being installed at sites such as Diss (Norfolk), Eastbourne, Durham and Yate. Aldi plans to add chargers at roughly 20 additional stores each year, pricing them at 40p /kWh for fast charging and 62p /kWh for rapid charging. Managing Director Jonathan Neale said, “We’re committed to making sustainable choices more accessible for our customers … and we’re helping to make that easier – and offering great‑value charging while they shop.”
