Mexico's 2026‑27 School Calendar Unveiled, Military Academy Shut
The Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) issued the national school calendar for the 2026‑27 academic year. Classes for preschool, primary and secondary students will begin on 31 August 2026 and end on 9 July 2027, covering the required 185 effective days of instruction. The calendar also provides a week of preparatory activities for teachers from 24 to 28 August.
Separately, SEP ordered the suspension of the Academia Militarizada Ignacio Zaragoza in Puebla, stating that the institution operates without any legal authorization for a militarized education model and must cease activities before the new school year starts.
On 29 July, SEP promoted a free “Noche de Museos” at the Museo Vivo del Muralismo, featuring nature‑themed exhibitions, a football‑inspired art display and a classical music concert.
State education authorities in Yucatán (SEGEY) released a matching calendar with the same start and end dates and 185 instructional days, while Tlaxcala announced an early teacher‑return on 24 August for an intensive technical council session.
