Aleksandar Vučić announces resignation from Serbian presidency

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has announced that he will resign from his position on September 27. Following his resignation, he intends to enter the campaign for the extraordinary parliamentary elections scheduled for October 25.

Vučić stated that he will address the citizens on the day of his resignation to thank them for their support. He noted that he has performed his duties faithfully and dedicatedly. After stepping down, he plans to participate in the election campaign as a private citizen. The electoral list ‘Aleksandar Vučić – United Serbia’ has already been declared by the Republic Electoral Commission, with Vučić at the top of the list.

His resignation may trigger additional presidential elections, which must be held within three months of the vacancy. The political landscape is also seeing the rise of the ‘Studentska lista’ (Student List), a group formed by students who led protests following a fatal canopy collapse in Novi Sad. This opposition list is led by Ilija Srdanović, a cardiologist and professor from Novi Sad.
